DEHisRe-Workshop

Der Wanderer über dem Nebelmeer

On February 1, 2024, the two members of the Junior Professorship for Digital Humanities, Marc Lemke and Nils Kellner, take part as speakers in the two-day workshop "From Place to Place: Digital Editing of Travel Narratives – New Perspectives". The event is organized by the team of the project »Digitale Editionen Historischer Reiseberichte« (DEHisRe), which is already the second workshop of the DFG project.

In terms of content, the presentations and discussions at the workshop will focus on the role of annotations as orientation aids in the complex topic of digital information. Beyond the current status, methods that enable users to actively involve themselves into the exploration and analysis of travelogues should be discussed. The role of interactive maps, timelines and other visual tools will be considered, as well as the general contribution of modern technologies to facilitate the work with historical travelogues and generating new research questions. As a coherent enrichment of the overall program, Lemke and Kellner will deal with annotation guidelines for the automatic recognition of literary space in their contribution and at the same time provide an insight into the workflow of the project »Computational Approaches to Narrative Space in 19th and 20th Century Novels« (CANSpiN), which is also promoted by the DFG.
