Erik Renz

Research Associate at the Junior Professorship for Digital Humanities and in the Project »KI-gestützter Unterricht« (AI-supported teaching)

Profile

As a Research Associate to Junior Professor Dr. Ulrike Henny-Krahmer, I am involved in both teaching and research within the field of Digital Humanities, in addition to contributing to academic self-administration.

At the same time, I am a team member on the project »KI-gestützter Unterricht« (AI-Supported Teaching) within the field of German Didactics, which is funded as part of the Zukunftsvertrag Studium und Lehre stärken (ZSL). In this position, I am responsible for designing, developing, and adapting a digital self-learning program aimed at introducing prospective German teachers to the use of AI-based applications.

My research interests are twofold: On one hand, I specialize in women's history and literature, with a particular focus on dramatic works. On the other hand, I am deeply engaged in the field of Digital Humanities, particularly with quantitative approaches to literature and digital methods for indexing and editing texts. I am also interested in exploring the impact of the digital transformation on humanities education.

Functions and Memberships

CV

Born in northeastern Germany in 1998, I studied History and German Studies at the University of Rostock, graduating in 2025 with a Master of Arts. During my postgraduate studies, I worked as a Student Assistant at both the Junior Professorship for Digital Humanities and the Uwe Johnson Professorship for Modern German Literature. I also gained initial teaching experience as a tutor.

Since 2023, I have been contributing to the »Drama Corpora Project« (DraCor), where I am enriching the collection of German-language drama (GerDraCor) with works by female authors. This work is closely linked to my ongoing PhD project at Freie Universität Berlin, which sits at the intersection of Computational Literary Studies and Gender Studies.
