Cordula Greinert

Research Associate at the Uwe Johnson Research Center

Profile

Since January 2022, I have been working as a research assistant at the Uwe Johnson Research Centre. In this position, I contribute to conceptual editorial issues within the Research Project »Uwe Johnson-Werkausgabe (The Complete Works of Uwe Johnson) of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities at the University of Rostock«. For the section »Letters«, I am devising a coherent concept to describe the material features of Johnson’s correspondence. For the section »Works«, I am developing guidelines for encoding in XML all the textual witnesses of a novel or a story by Johnson.

My research focuses on the fields of scholarly editing (both print and digital), German-speaking exile literature and culture (from 1933 until 1945) and on the authors Heinrich Mann, Frank Wedekind and Uwe Johnson.

CV

Having completed my degree in European Studies (Cultural Studies and Social Sciences, M.A.) at the Universities of Osnabrück, Amsterdam and Birmingham, I started working in the field of scholarly editing in the framework of the »Complete Critical Edition of Heinrich Mannʼs Essays and Journalism« (1889-1950) and of the »Scholarly Edition of Therese Huberʼs Letters« (1774-1829) at the University of Osnabrück. Besides, I became a research and teaching assistant at its Institutes for German and Romance Studies.

Subsequently, I collaborated in the historical edition »The USSR and the Two German States. 1949-1955. Sources from German and Russian Archives« at the Leibniz Centre for Contemporary History Potsdam and contributed to the ERC-funded project »Left-wing Exile in Mexico (1934-1960)« at the University of Cologne as a research assistant in Russian archives. Afterwards, I was employed at the Walter A. Berendsohn Research Centre for German Exile Literature at the University of Hamburg as a research assistant, in charge of the P. Walter Jacob Archive.

Before joining the Uwe Johnson Research Centre in Rostock, I worked as a research assistant for and co-editor of the DFG-funded project »Frank Wedekindʼs Correspondence – Digital Edition« (1879-1918) at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz.

In the framework of my PhD, I am editing Volume 8 of the »Complete Critical Edition of Heinrich Mannʼs Essays and Journalism«, which contains the authorʼs texts from January 1938 until January 1940, the last years of his exile in France.
