The Uwe Johnson Professorship for Modern German Literature was endowed to the University of Rostock by Dr. Ulrich Fries and has since become a regular position. Over the past years, it has developed into the center of worldwide Johnson research. Accordingly, the literature since 1945 forms the core of my research field. In addition, I am concerned with the history of science and cultural studies, which intersect in my interest in the relationship between science and the public sphere. In terms of teaching, this has resulted in a preference for low-technology teaching.
