The “Hack & Play” lecture series organised by the “Kallimachos” Centre for Digitality and Philology at the University of Würzburg invites you on a journey back to the early days of digital culture: to a time before the internet, USB and generative AI, when home computers and games consoles first began to shape everyday life.
The lectures explore historical forms of digitality from the perspectives of media archaeology, computer history and the digital humanities. The focus is on cultural practices, technical conditions and aesthetic forms of expression – as well as the question of what we wish to preserve and develop further today.
The lectures will take place in Würzburg at the Retro Computing Lab, a working collection of historical computer systems with a focus on the 1980s. However, online participation is also possible.
The contact person for “Hack & Play” is Torsten Roeder (torsten.roederuni-wuerzburgde), who, as an associate member of RosDH, bridges the gap between Würzburg and Rostock.
