Abstract:
Seit 2021 entsteht die Erich Wolfgang Korngold Werkausgabe (EWK-WA) an der Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt sowie der Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock. Es handelt sich um eines der wenigen musikwissenschaftlichen Editionsprojekte zu einem Komponisten des 20. Jahrhunderts, zumal einem verfemten Komponisten, der aufgrund seiner jüdischen Abstammung 1938 von Wien ins US-amerikanische Exil flüchten musste, wo er als erfolgreicher Filmmusikkomponist wirkte. Wie sich die Biographie Korngolds zwischen zwei Welten bewegt – Wien und Hollywood, Konzertsaal und Kinoleinwand – so setzt die EWK-WA auf ein hybrides Publikationsmodell, das sowohl gedruckte Bände als auch digitale Komponenten umfasst. Ziel des innovativen Hybridkonzepts ist eine möglichst starke Integration der beiden „Welten“ Print und Digital, die dem multimedialen Gegenstand der Filmmusik gerecht wird und ein dynamisches Zusammenspiel von traditionellem Notentext und Online-Inhalten ermöglicht.

Jannik Franz has been a Research Associate in the Research Project Erich Wolfgang Korngold Werkausgabe in Rostock since December 2024. After studying musicology and history at the University of Tübingen, he worked from 2022 to 2024 as a research associate on the project “The Correspondence between Arnold Schönberg and his Publishers Universal-Edition and Verlag Dreililien. A Critical Hybrid Edition” at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
Tim Kuhlmann has been a Research Associate in the Research Project Erich Wolfgang Korngold Werkausgabe in Rostock since February 2023. After studying music theory, music education, and German studies in Hanover, he began teaching music theory and ear training at universities in Hanover, Rostock, and Detmold. At the Rostock University of Music and Theatre, he also teaches score reading, instrumentation, and acoustics.
Marie Luise Voß studied violin as her major subject from 2017 to 2021, earning a Bachelor of Music from the Rostock University of Music and Theatre. She then completed a Master of Arts in Musicology with a focus on film music, also at the Rostock University of Music and Theatre. She graduated in 2023 with a master’s thesis on the development of adventure film music in the context of queer and gender studies, using Robin Hood film adaptations as case studies. Since October 2023, she has been pursuing a doctoral project titled “Wien-Vertonungen im US-amerikanischen Exil. Komponieren als biografische Reflexion.” Marie Luise Voß has worked in the Research Project Erich Wolfgang Korngold Werkausgabe since December 2025 as a Research Associate, having previously been employed as a student assistant from March 2021 to September 2023 and as a graduate assistant from October 2023 to November 2025.
