The 24th conference of the Text Encoding Initiative, which will take place at the Universidad del Salvador in Buenos Aires from October 7 to 11, 2024, will focus on the global importance of the TEI standard as well as its regional adaptations. As in previous editions, the conference will bring together TEI's pluralistic community with the aim of reflecting on and discussing the texts studied, the languages used, and the new communities that have emerged through the sharing of experiences and learning together.
For the first time, the conference will be held in the Global South under the motto “Texts, Languages, and Communities” – a move that both recognizes the early TEI projects in Spanish-speaking countries and emphasizes the increased exchange between participants and researchers from both sides of the Atlantic.
This year, Ulrike Henny-Krahmer, representing the University of Rostock, will close the conference program on Friday, October 11, with her keynote speech »TEI para las comunidades de Humanidades Digitales«. In her presentation, the Junior Professor of Digital Humanities will shed light on the TEI standard in the context of digital edition projects and its application in computer-aided analyses.
For the DH in Rostock, the conference also offers an opportunity to deepen existing international collaborations. Of particular note is the collaboration with Gimena del Río Riande from the Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET), whom we are looking forward to welcoming next year as a guest researcher at the University of Rostock as part of the Mare Balticum Fellowship Program.
